Caring For and About Our Veterans - A Call to Action - Arizona Interfaith Movement

A couple of weeks ago or so I was privileged to speak and be part of a panel discussion on veterans issues.  The gathering was hosted by the Arizona Interfaith Movement at the Jewish Historical Society in downtown Phoenix.  Among the speakers was Terry who runs MANA, an organization for homeless vets, a retired USAF chaplain who is also a Christian Science practitioner and a Rabbi who ministered as a contract rabbi at an air force base for many years.

It was a good gathering and slightly emotional.  It seemed to touch a nerve in many, and so many people of various faiths do want to help our veterans, and or the vets in their respective congregations but do not know how, or where to go.  As well, many know how bogged down, budget crunched and slow the VA hospitals are...there have to be other resources, but how to help?  Where to go?

So the Arizona Interfaith Movement was kind enough to create a web page as a resource in caring for our vets.   I provided an extensive list of local military and veteran organizations.  It took me a bit of research to gather the information.

Even for people who have been in the military for many years, it is very difficult to know of all the many organizations that exist to help vets.  And there are many out there!

As Joy, the moderator of the panel discussion stated, "We don't have to wait for the government to act or be bogged down in red tape!"

Here is the link if you would like to learn more about the many resources and organizations out there to help the veterans and military people in your respective communities and congregations, and or ways to get involved:
